Barbara Riedler gave a presentation on "EO-based services to address dynamic information needs in humanitarian action" at the African Association of Remote Sensing of the Environment (AARSE) conference in Kampala, Uganda.

AGIT 2016 Copernicus4all

During this year's annual symposium AGIT on applied geoinformatics in Salzburg on 6. July 2016 the EO-based information services by Z_GIS to support humanitarian action were presented by Edith Rogenhofer and Lorenz Wendt within the special forum Copernicus4all, which showcased various applications of the European Copernicus Programme. The forum was organized by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG, Z_GIS and Copernicus.    

European Space Solutions event, The Hague

Achievements of the Z_GIS working group OBIA were showcased at the Copernicus exhibition of the European Space Solutions event under the EC presidency of the Netherlands in The Hague, May 31 – June 3. The price-winning IQ (image querying) system is paired with one of the most successful EO application domains, - support to humanitarian action! Z_GIS has been very active fostering the collaboration with international humanitarian organisations over the last years. 

World Humanitarian Summit Istanbul

At the World Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, 23-24 May 2016, under the umbrella of DG ECHO, a promotion event for the Copernicus Emergency Management Service has been co-organised by Peter Zeil, formerly seconded to the Copernicus unit at DG GROW.
It was attended by Z_GIS representative Dr Stefan Lang, showcasing the successful service setup by Z_GIS for humanitarian operations. Participants from international NGOs, country representatives, EU and UN organisations, as well as civil protection agencies, joined the event and engaged in discussions on future EO-based humanitarian information services.

FFG Workshop Humanitäre Hilfe aus dem All

The Austrian Research Promotion Agency FFG organized together with TU Wien, University of Salzburg and SOS Children's Villages a workshop on improving the use of information from Earth observation satellites for humanitarian aid and development cooperation. The workshop took place on 23. Feb 2016 in Vienna. In this workshop, the various ongoing R&D projects in Austria in this domain were presented to interested NGOs and other humanitarian actors. The work of EO4HumEn was presented by Petra Füreder.
